Artist, Producer, and Playwright, Bruse Scott, began his formal education and studies in Advertising Design at Cameron University, Lawton, Oklahoma. He later completed his academic studies in Fine Art and received degrees in Fine Art (Mixed Media) and Art History.
Bruse’s art focuses on the study of people. He has painted and drawn people from all phases of life. His Surrealist style and approach is noticed throughout his work. His influences include, but are not limited to the likes of Ernie Barnes, Jacob Lawrence & Magritte. Expressionists like Henry O’ Tanner, Jeffery Biggers, Charles White have also made impacts on his creative style. While in his studio, Bruse’s work takes on incongruous, imaginative effects by means of unnatural juxtapositions and color combinations.
Bruse has been an artist all his life. He had already sold his first painting by the age of 10. Like other artists, he enjoys a private and rather reclusive lifestyle. His work expresses his past experiences, imagination and everyday surroundings on canvas. When Bruse is not in his studio, he can be found teaching art concepts to children and participating in various charity organizations. His work is exhibited and collected by admirers and celebrities nation-wide. His private collection, valued over $2.5 million includes over 450 original paintings and drawings and limitless prints. As an artist, he has an excellent reputation in many cities throughout the country. His ability to express himself through his work is admired by a wide range of viewers and patrons alike. Some of his popular works include “Sign of the Times,” which is on loan for exhibition at the Underground Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia; “Battle Ends II,: a painting depicting the Buffalo Soldiers, is currently on display in Wiesbaden, Germany; and “By any Means Necessary,” a gift to movie director, Spike Lee. Bruse has also painted portraits for such greats as Author, Clifton Taulbert (When We Were Colored), World renowned motivational speaker, Les Brown and an oil painting for Dularon Entertainment for Video/movie box cover “Black Wallstreet”. In 1997 he wrote, co-directed and produced a seventy five casts and crew eclectic stage play entitled Strides Bruse’s Living Art Revue which will reach print and the cinema theater in the near future. His immediate plans is converted his stage play into his first novel. Coming soon.
